The machine is protected from overheating by a length of special wire. This length of wire is a loop with both ends connected to the Main Circuit Board. The middle of the loop is attached to the backside of the rear wall of the roasting chamber. The wire acts as a thermal fuse. In the rare occurrence that the safety features of the machine fail and the roasting chamber overheats, the Fusible Link melts where it is attached to the roasting chamber and the machine turns off. If it has done its job the machine will not power up at all.

If your Roaster will not turn on, and you have verified that the circuit into which the Hottop Coffee Roaster is plugged has power (that a fuse or circuit breaker has not been tripped in the home) then you should begin by checking the fusible link. To test Begin by following these procedures:

WARNING: Unplug the machine!
Remove Fan
Remove Rear Cover

2 Use a needle nose pliers to remove the two wires shown here which connect the Fusible Link to the Main Circuit Board. Your board may look different from that shown here, but the two wires of the Fusible Link are easily identified as they are covered with a white, woven insulation. They connect to the two terminals marked "T3" and "T4" on the Main Board.

3 Using either an ohm meter or a continuity tester, test the fusible link by connecting the test device to the link- each of the two leads from the tester connected to each of the connectors of the fusible link as seen here.

Depending on the tester you are using, the results should show approximately 0 Ohms (no resistance) or full continuity (see the instructions included with your testing device to assist in interpreting the results). If the results show that the fusible link is not conducting electricity, Contact hottop@hottopusa.com for fusible link replacement, or other repair procedures. Refer to the repair procedures for instructions on how to replace the fusible link.

If the Fusible link is good, check the Fuse. It can be tested by removing it from the main Board for a visual inspection or tested with the same device used to test the fusible link. Only the KN-8828 and the KN-8828D have a fuse on the circuit board. NOTE: Neither the KN-8828B nor the KN-8828P have a fuse on the circuit board.
